K-Fai Steele

K-Fai Steele is an author-illustrator who grew up in a house built in the 1700s with a printing press her father bought from a magician.

She has written and illustrated A Normal Pig and All Eyes on Ozzy! (both with Balzer + Bray/HarperCollins).

Some books she has illustrated include Noodlephant by Jacob Kramer (Enchanted Lion Books), Does a Bulldozer Have a Butt? and I Made These Ants Some Underpants by Derick Wilder (Chronicle Books), and The Brilliant Ms. Bangle by Cara Devins (Feiwel & Friends/Macmillan). In 2024 she is illustrating the Lone Wolf early reader series by Kiah Thomas (Neal Porter Books) as well as That Always Happens Sometimes by Kiley Frank (Random House).

K-Fai has always loved art and books, and worked in museums and libraries as an adult. She was an Art Handler at the Museum of Modern Art in New York where she got to install Starry Night and Picasso’s Guitar. She also worked at the Free Library of Philadelphia, and the National Writing Project.

From 2018-2019 she was a Brown Handler Writer in Residence at the San Francisco Public Library, and a recipient of the James Marshall Fellowship at the University of Connecticut. She received the Ezra Jack Keats/Kerman Memorial Fellowship in 2018 at the University of Minnesota.

K-Fai was born in Charlton, Massachusetts and now lives in Lausanne, Switzerland (where Richard Scarry also called home!).
