Together, they have created two hybrid middle grade series (The Cookie Chronicles and The Real McCoys) and three picture books (Sunrise Summer, Babies Ruin Everything, and Everywhere, Wonder). Their standalone novel Life On the Moon is forthcoming from Knopf.
Their national literacy access and awareness project Busload of Books provides free books, creative programming, teddy bears, and hugs to underserved elementary school communities across the country.
Matthew and Robbi (and their four kids and two dogs) spent the 2022-2023 school year traveling 34,000 miles in a colorful tiny home school bus, bringing 106 assemblies, 25,000 teddy bears, and 150,000 books to students and teachers in all 50 states—while facilitating a landmark research study on the impact of author/illustrator visits.
They spend their summers running a commercial salmon fishing operation on the Alaskan tundra and the rest of the year making books in the hayloft of an old barn on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
