Paragraph Matthew J. Baek was born in Seoul, South Korea and moved to the States in 1981.

He dreamed of becoming an artist ever since he could remember. After studying at Maryland Institute, College of Art, he worked as a freelance illustrator for such clients as the Washington Post, the Atlanta Journal and Constitution, Samsung, Forbes, and the Progressive magazine.

His first book Be Gentle With the Dog, Dear! was written to teach his daughter how to properly treat pets. He’s second book, Panda and Polar Bear which was a Junior Library Guild Selection was inspired by is immigration experience. He currently lives in Maryland with his wife Jin and two daughters, Elisa and Jaden.
