From when she was a very small child, Maria wanted to be a children’s book author and illustrator. But as usual, she took a roundabout route to get there.

She became CEO of her family’s publishing company and launched her own imprint called Rodale Kids. Then she published under the pseudonym Mrs. Peanuckle. She did six Mrs. Peanuckle Alphabet books under her own imprint, sold her whole company and then two Alphabet books for the new owners, Penguin Random House.

She is now branching out to do more children’s books under her own name. Maria and Mrs. Peanuckle both live in the woods of Pennsylvania. She has three children, one grandchild, twelve chickens, one naughty cat and one very, very old dog.
