Vikram Madan

Vikram Madan grew up in New Delhi, India where he really wanted to be a cartoonist but ended up an engineer. After many years of working in tech, he thankfully came to his senses and followed his heart into living an authentic, creative life.

Vikram is the author-illustrator of several collections of funny poems: A Hatful of Dragons: And More Than 13.8 Billion Other Funny Poems (WordSong) received a starred-review from Kirkus Reviews, was selected as a Best Book of the Year by Kirkus Reviews, Bank Street College of Education, NYPL, and others, and was a finalist for the Texas Bluebonnet Award and the South Dakota Prairie Bloom Award. Two earlier collections, The Bubble Collector and Lord of the Bubbles both won Moonbeam Book Awards for Children's Poetry. Beware the Dragon and the Nozzlewock (Wordsong), a poetry collection in graphic-novel format, releases in 2024.

Vikram is the author-illustrator of the Geisel-Honor-winning graphic novel series Owl & Penguin (Holiday House) and the graphic-novel-in-rhyme series Zooni Tales (Holiday House), all of which are Junior Library Guild Gold standard selections.

Vikram is also the author of the early reader series Bobo & Pup-Pup (Penguin Random House, illus. Nicola Slater).

On the illustration side, Vikram works primarily with ink and watercolor, using a mix of traditional and digital techniques. His style is heavily influenced by his cartooning experiences, which included a two-year stint drawing award-winning editorial cartoons for a daily newspaper.
