Jessie Howell grew in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and earned a B.A. in Chinese and a B.F.A. in painting at the University of Michigan.

After spending time working as an English teacher in mainland China, She went on to earn a Master’s of Library and Information Science at Simmons College in Boston. Though her love of China, books, and drawing, she conceived an autobiographical graphic novel project that she is currently pursuing. Jessie currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland with her husband and her cat.
