Donna Barba Higuera

Donna grew up in central California surrounded by agricultural and oil fields. Her favorite childhood activities were calling dial-a-story at the local public library over and over again, and sneaking into a restricted cemetery to weave her own tales using crumbling headstones as inspiration.

Her books and characters are influenced by her own bicultural life experience and folklore passed down from family elders. She still dreams and writes in Spanglish.

Her debut novel Lupe Wong Won’t Dance! was released in the Fall of 2020 by Levine Querido Books.

Donna lives in Washington State with her husband, four children, two dogs and three frogs. Donna is a Critique-Group-Coordinator for SCBWI-Western Washington and teaches “The Hero’s Journey for Young Authors” to future writers.
