Chris Demarest

Chris Demarest, born and raised in New England is the author and illustrator of scores of children's books. No Peas For Nellie and The Butterfly Jar (Jeffery Moss) were state award winners, Colorado and Kentucky respectively.   In 2000 his work took on non-fiction subjects starting with Firefighters A to Z (McElderry Books -New York Times Best Book (2000).  Since then he's gone on to document the work of the USCG, US Forest Service smokejumpers and the US Coast Guard in book form.  In 2004, as an official USCG artist, he was sent to the Persian Gulf to cover their work abroad.

His current non-publishing projects includes documenting medical work for Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and The Children's Inn at NIH.

His latest book, Arlington: Our Nation's Cemetery (Roaring Brook Press) will be released Fall 2010.
Mr. Demarest divides his time between NH and Maryland.
